Shocking …
My 3rd uncle passed away yesterday in Taiwan. Of course no one wants to share the sad news with us here in America, they just want to delay for as long as they can before telling us… thanks to the power of Facebook, I saw my cousin’s farewell post … I called Taiwan, and confirmed the sad news with the family.
This uncle is my mom’s youngest brother, I have yet to tell her about the news, I don’t know how she will react.
When I graduated from the 6th grade, my brother Peter and I moved to South Africa to live with my uncle’s family. My uncle and aunt took extremely good care of us, just look at how “well-fed” I am. :-) I went to river fishing for the first time with uncle, went to crab fishing with him too… he is a great cook, and is always willing to do the hard chores that no one wants to do, so he can take care of us.
After moving to USA, we grew apart, lost touch. He had a stroke leaving him paralyzed in the hospital for a long time. I was lucky to have visited him during my trip back to Taiwan last May.
Rest in peace uncle. May you find the joy and freedom where ever you are right now. Maybe you will be able to look up Peter, and take him on some fishing trips that we all enjoyed so much.
Now .. how to tell my mom this news….
